What is Empowerment?

Emowerment

Empowerment is one of those words, isn’t it? People throw it around, we know everyone wants to feel empowered, but what is empowerment? What does it actually mean?

EMPOWERMENT

noun

  1. authority or power given to someone to do something.
“individuals are given empowerment to create their own dwellings”
    • the process of becoming stronger and more confident, especially in controlling one’s life and claiming one’s rights.
“political steps for the empowerment of women”

That’s all very well, but here’s what we think empowerment means at Wild For Purpose.

For us, empowerment is that moment that everything clicks into place. When you find yourself in control of what you have been working on taming, whether that be your emotions, your career, your relationships. It’s that ah-ha moment that everyone talks about. That sense of pride bursting in your chest. The feeling that you’re suddenly two inches taller (without wearing heels!). Empowerment is the energy of power and confidence that exudes from you when you smile. The ‘taking life by the horns’ moment. Empowerment is the sense of purpose and belonging that feels so natural and just right.

That’s what empowerment means to us.

And there are so many areas of your life that your empowered self can shine through. Finding moments of empowerment doesn’t have to be as big as the day you hand in your notice to your awful boss at the job you hate (although, high-five if it is!) but it can be something super simple like finally waking up after the first alarm, without hitting snooze seven times, and feeling ready to take on the day like a champ.

Find that moment of confidence and clarity when you can end that toxic relationship for good when you run your first 5k without stopping when you start to make small changes to be more environmentally friendly. Take control of your health and wellbeing by making healthier food choices, start a journal, consciously limit your screen time. Discover a sense of empowerment by standing up for what you believe in, whether politically or personally, you have a voice to be heard. Whatever your goal is, you can do it.

It’s important to remember that it’s the small steps and the tiniest changes that build up to the big things. But you’ll get there. Once you’re on a roll, feeling fabulous and empowered will be your go-to and there’ll be no limitations to what you can do, and how amazing is that?!

The way you find your passion, your purpose and your empowerment is up to you. There’s no set path to finding it, and that’s because everyone’s journeys and goals are so different. But it’s there, ready and waiting for you to grab it. You are responsible for your own happiness, and you get to call the shots to become the most content, successful and fulfilled version of yourself. Live your passion, find your purpose and be the empowered boss you are!

As well as being a qualified NLP practitioner, Jess has a rich background in marketing and writing. Having written for other people throughout her career, she is definitely loving being able to finally write and create for herself. Her work mainly consists of researching and trying out everything and anything to do with personal development and helping guide others through this sometimes daunting and confusing space. Her downtime (when she isn't being an adrenaline junkie) usually consists of shinrin-yoku, reading a ludicrous amount of books, working on her many secret novels, harassing her cats, watching 80's & 90's movies and raging at her consoles. When she isn't a potato, she can sometimes be seen outdoors (normally hiking, galavanting on beaches or skulking in the woods).
